Pharmacology: Abametapir functions as a metalloproteinase inhibitor, targeting enzymes essential for the development and survival of lice eggs. By inhibiting these enzymes, abametapir disrupts critical physiological processes in lice.
Dosage & Administration: For topical use only. Shake the bottle well before application. Apply a sufficient amount to thoroughly coat dry hair and scalp, using up to the full contents of one bottle if necessary. Massage into the scalp and hair, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Treatment involves a single application; do not re-treat.
Interaction: Abametapir may increase the serum concentration of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4, CYP2B6, and CYP1A2 enzymes. It is advisable to avoid using such drugs for two weeks following abametapir application.
Contraindications: There are no specific contraindications listed in the manufacturer’s labeling.
Side Effects: Common side effects include skin redness, rash, burning sensation, skin irritation, vomiting, eye irritation, itchy scalp, and changes in hair color.
